Halloween

Halloween was very special for our family this year because it was the first time Patrick was able to spend it with the kids! Every other year he was either on a work up, on call, or deployed so we were all very happy to have him with us this year to celebrate this fun holiday. The weather was less than ideal for sure though...temps were in the 20s with strong winds and slow flurries that turned into sleet that blew sideways and whipped us in the face. We have never trick or treated so fast! We were all happy to be out of the cold and back into our warm dry home when we were done. After we were done trick or treating we went to our neighbors, the Kramers, house for some chili and hot dogs, and lots of other yummy treats! It was a fun night filled with lots of sweet treats for all!

This is how princesses look in Northern Illinois in the fall...a bottom layer of fleece with the princess gown on top ;) The girls were actually pretty bummed because we had to wear our heavy coats on top the costumes so no one could see what they were dressed up as. So they made a point to let each person we saw know that they had a princess costume on beneath their coats.
Micah didn't quite understand what was going on. And that's his glow necklace that he insisted should be around his face instead of his neck. But once he got that first piece of candy in his trick or treat bag he was quite the happy little guy!
The kids school had black and orange day the week of Halloween and had parties!

The night before Halloween their school had an event called "Storytime with milk and cookies" where everyone came in the pjs, listened to a couple of stories, and had chocolate milk and cookies. The kids couldn't have been happier!

Before the stories were read there were Halloween activities for the kids to do. Dad helping Micah paint a pumpkin.
Charlotte decorating her ghost.
